"Seapoint have become one of the first women's teams through to the last eight of the Irish Mail All-Ireland Trophy, thanks to a remarkable sister act.
The two sisters, Una Brennan and Fionnuala Jordan, achieved their success with a sudden-death victory over Malone to put the club from Drogheda, Co Louth, just one match away from the finals at Macreddin Village in September.
Fionnuala said:'My sister and I have been playing golf for only six-and-a-half years and we have never had a lesson in our lives, so you can imagine how thrilled we are. We are really delighted to be still in the running for the final.
'Since Seapoint is quite young, just 14 years old compared with other clubs' experience and reputation, we were thrilled to have done so well, particularly our first-round win against neighbouring club Baltray. That has spurred us on.'
Una and Fionnuala beat Malone's Jane Gardner and Anne Chambers after a tight match which went to the 19th hole.
During their run this year they have also beaten Howth and Ardee.
Fionnuala said:'All our matches have been quite tight, whatever the resukts, but we are having a great time and really enjoying playing in the competition.'
