Simon Thornton followed an excellent opening 66 with another one to match and lead the PGA championship at Seapoint on twelve under par after day two. Des Smyth continued his vein of good form which saw him win recently again on the Senior European tour with rounds of 67 and 68 to be just three shots behind at 9 under and ensuring a long with Gary Murphy at two under, a big local interest in the final two rounds taking place on Saturday.

Overall the scoring was several shots better than last year but even at that the cut came at 5 over par after the opening rounds. The weather forecast for Saturday is not as good as the first two days so the players will have to contend with that as well as a final day of thirty six holes which should sort the men from the boys.
The Seapoint players had a reasonable day with David Winters, Enda Maguire and Graham O’ Callaghan all making the cut but unfortunately David Carroll missed out.
