Members of Seapoint Golf Club
are celebrating its rating as one of the top 30 courses in Ireland, a jump of
23 places in the Golf Digest Ireland top 100 survey.
Peter Jordan, chairman of the
club's joint committee said that, while the members were delighted with the
result, they were not surprised as the course has matured and improved every
year.
'Designed by Ryder Cup Vice
Captain, Des Smyth and renowned amateur golfer Declan Branigan, our club opened
its doors only 15 years ago.
'In that time we have invested in
the layout and the maintenance to make this a showcase of links golf.
'While all of us in the club are
very proud of the course, it is very rewarding to get feedback from the many
visitors from at home and abroad.
'So impressed with the course on a
recent visit, Darren Clarke said that it was in prime condition and just right
to stage a major PGA event,' Peter said.
Seapoint is one of two Louth
courses to be named listed as top courses in Ireland, with County Louth Golf
Club in Baltray ranked 9th. Also named on the list was Dundalk Golf Club.
These high rankings along with the
fact that some of the best golfers in the world live in the county, places
Louth as an ideal location for golfing holidays.
' We have recently launched
www.playandstay.ie and joined forces with three other courses and seven local
hotels in the north east to offer visitors three games of golf and two nights‚
bed and breakfast for only € 200 per person, which is real value,' he said.
'Our new five day membership offer
and seven day annual membership is also attracting a lot of attention and is
fantastic value for the quality and condition of our course, just 35 minutes
from Dublin'.
